Preventative Care

Preventative care is the best way to help your child maintain a healthy smile and avoid dental problems. Preventative care can save your child from toothaches, extensive dental treatment, and negative dental experiences. We recommend consistent dental check-ups to ensure your child is comfortable at the dentist and to provide your child with the tools they need to maintain a healthy smile. We always encourage questions from both children and parents!

Exam & X-rays

A dental exam is recommended twice a year. These frequent visits ensure we are catching any concerns early on. During the exam, we look for cavities, gum disease, and any orthodontic issues developing. When appropriate, we use x-rays to diagnose cavities and pathology that are not visible to the naked eye. We also use x-rays to determine the progression and positioning of your child’s adult teeth. We use the latest dental x-ray technology with very minimal radiation exposure.

Cleanings

A cleaning is recommended twice a year and is usually completed along with the exam. During the cleaning, we will remove plaque and tartar buildup, floss, and finish with a polish. We will point out any areas that you may be missing with the toothbrush and offer tips for better oral hygiene.

Fluoride Treatments

After the cleaning, we offer a fluoride treatment. Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral that is important for the long-term health of your child’s teeth. This mineral and others, like calcium and phosphate, help strengthen the enamel of teeth and protect against cavity-causing bacteria. Our office offers fun flavors that the kids love picking out!

BPA-Free Sealants

Dental sealants are applied to the chewing surfaces of teeth to protect against cavities. The grooves on certain teeth can retain food and bacteria that cause cavities. The sealants serve as a protective layer that can reduce the risk of cavities forming in these grooves. Once applied, dental sealants are made to protect teeth for several years.

Smiling Kids

Parents Are Welcome!

At Just Keiki Pediatric Dentistry, we encourage parents to be a part of the entire dental process. From educating parents about proper oral hygiene to discussing the best treatment options, our team invites parents to participate in their child’s oral health care plan. By having parents involved, you and your child can feel more comfortable about your child’s overall dental experience.
